Reginald Jaeger Clarke - Solicitor
Reginald Jaeger Clarke - Solicitor
I am attempting to research Reginald Jaeger Clarke, a prominent Liverpool solicitor around the turn of the 20th century.
I know that he was born at Aughton, Ormskirk about 1871 and practised his profession from May, 1892. He was mobilised at the outbreak of WW1 as a Major, 9th Battalion, King's Liverpool Regiment. He was considered too old to go to France with his battalion and so, in August, 1916 he was given command of a company of the 21st Battalion, Cheshire Regt.. Promoted to command the battalion in December, 1916 and subsequently employed as Assistant Labour Commandant in the organisation and command of Labour Bureaux and as Courts Martial Officer of No.1 Area, and then transferred as Courts-Martial Officer to No.1 District in October, 1919.
Can anyone give me any leads to find out more about him, particularly his civilian life in and around Liverpool?
I have found him on the 1881 & 1891 Census, but no others.
Thanks in advance,
Ken

There is a piece about RJ Clarke, with photo, in Pike's Contemporary Biographies -Liverpool & Birkenhead (1911). 9 KLR is mentioned.
I wil scan it and email you, but have to go out for an hour or two. Are you still with BT?

After the fantastic job they did over the Asquiths in Melling, I'm not surprised at whatever our crew manage to dig up, they are great!

I have emailed the extract to Ken Lees and could post it here, but am unskilled in the process. The file is shown as 675KB. Will it burn out the valves if I try to copy it here?
