Alexander Edwin Fletcher b 1893 Liverpool

Please I need urgent help with this . My grand son needs to know for Monday and we are out all day tomorrow HELP.. I know he was killed 30 Jul 1916 aged 23 , in France. I do not know which battle or any other history, I believe he was in the Liverpool and Scottish regiment . Any help greatfully received

He was in 17th Battalion ( a "Liverpool Pals" unit), King's (Liverpool) Regiment , Lance Corporal, army number 15799.

Hi Lyn Edwin is on the CWGC - Lance Corporal 15799 and is on the Thieval Memorial - The Kings (Liverpool Regiment) and was the son of Alexander and Elizabeth A Fletcher of 11a Mount Vernon Road Liverpool. Hope this helps.

He volunteered on 3 September 1914 and went to France in November 1915. Presumably killed in the battle of the Somme.

His army papers have survived and can be viewed on both Findmypast and Ancestry.

Thanks both, I'm off to ancestry. Didn't know they had such things. Grand son will be delighted. He is his 1st cousin 4 x removed !!

His name is on panel 64 of the Town Hall roll of honour.
