Catholic Orphans

Post by MaryA »

From one of our members, Catherine Sing
From about 1894 some Liverpool Catholic children who may otherwise have been admitted to the Workhouse were sent to Bishop OReillys Poor Law Memorial School. One way to find these children between census years is to search the baptism records for St Pauls in West Derby as many of the children were given a sub conditional baptism. Ancestry has the baptisms up to 1906. To spot these entries you will see Layfield in the margin. Also the word conditional or sub conditional is added.
