Bonney/ Marsden

Post by margie »

Hi,
I have a William Bonney who married Agnes Marsden.
3.8.1807
All Saints Wigan Lancashire
Witness Wm.Banks James Magraw.

On the Baptism record for William first son of above at Wigan Church he was born 14.11.1811
Bap 25.12.1811 (On Anc...)
It states that the parents of Agnes are John & Jane Marsden, cant find a marriage or Baptism for Agnes around the Wigan area.
Also what happened to William the son.

If anyone can help I would be extremely grateful
Thanks Margie

Just as a guide, can you tell us whether the family remained in the Wigan area later, on censuses etc.?

Hi Mary A,
I can only presume they did hence the difficulty in finding any of them.
Thanks Margie

There is something a little odd here lan-opc name Agnes' parents but the actual image on the Wigan Parish Registers from Wigan and Leigh Archives doesn't neither does the entry from the Lancashire Archives film which I imagine is from the BTs.

If it where my ancestor I would go with the actual images shown. I would also contact lan-opc with copies of the actual images and ask where they got their transcript from.

It could be a data entry keying error.

I have 3 unrelated/unknown infants in a family grave on the Toxteth Park cemetery database, I made some enquiries with Liverpool council who weren't allowed to give me names of who's in the grave (??) so I contacted the database owner, he's told me that 1 is definitely wrong due to a data entry error and he thinks the other 2 probably are also, but will get back to me when he's checked the records.

Wigan Church of England Baptisms, definitely states Agnes parents as John & Jane Marsden but as not helped me find them or Agnes's Baptism.

Sorry my fault I was reading it all wrong thinking it was on the marriage not the baptism.

By the early 1800s the cotton industry in Wigan was still quite young. Perhaps Agnes' family had moved from an area with a longer established cotton industry maybe Blackburn or elsewhere.

Hilary,

Yes think I will have to widen the search for the Marsden,s,

I don't suppose you know if the Baptisms for ST. John RC Wigan are going to be transcribed after 1822, I have a burial for a child in 1834 born c 1832 Mary Bonney child of William Bonney & Jane ?? this could be one of mine but without the Baptism record cant be sure.

Thanks Margie
