Help again please. Draper and Horrocks

Post by lynne99 »

Please could you help me find any further info about the following couple.
William Draper from Wigan born c 1780
I have found a William b 1778 Dalton , Wigan, He was apparently in the army from Anc enlisted 1800 discharged 1819, I have no other info about him. There is another one b 1778 also Dalton, but with different parents.

He married Mary Horrocks at All Saints All saints Wigan 1802, both from Dalton. No occupation given.
I have found 4 children James 1802, died 1808, Ellen b 1804, James 1809, William 1811. Ellen is my great x 2 Grandmother.

I would like to know their (William and Mary's ) parents , baptism etc. The census for Ellen in 1871 says she was born in Hawten, Lancashire. but the 1851 says Leeds Yorkshire. I cannot find her on 1861 census (Ellen Manchester , husband Henry Manchester b 1801 Ormskirk. They were married in Preston in 1821.) I believe they lived ay 30 Kirkdale road for many years and have been told that these records are missing for 1861.

Any help going backwards would be helpful Thanks

Sometimes the names help to decide, comparing with the children

Siblings of William the son of James and Martha
Peggy 26 Mar 1780 (abode Dalton, Wigan)
Alice 9 Feb 1783 (abode Ormskirk) Contained in Eccleston register
John 22 May 1785 (abode Wigan) Contained in Eccleston register
Mary 25 May 1788 (abode Wigan) Contained in Eccleston register
James 4 Nov 1792 (abode Wigan) Contained in Eccleston register

Siblings of William the son of Thomas and Ellen
James 22 Nov 1778 (abode Dalton, Wigan)
Margaret 14 Dec 1783 (abode Ormskirk) Contained in Eccleston register
Thomas 29 Oct 1786 (abode Ormskirk) Contained in Eccleston register
Henry 17 May 1789 (abode Ormskirk) Contained in Eccleston register
Richard 17 May 1789 (abode Ormskirk) Contained in Eccleston register
Richard 1 Jan 1792 (abode Ormskirk) Contained in Eccleston register
Richard 4 Aug 1793 (abode Wigan) Contained in Eccleston register
John 9 Oct 1796 (abode Ormskirk) Contained in Eccleston register
Edward 30 Aug 1799 St Peter and St Paul, Ormskirk performed at Lathom Chapel

Does anybody know whether there was a connection between Ormskirk and Wigan so far as services were concerned?

Thanks Mary. I cannot make my mind up which is which. The older one, son of James and Martha seems to be the one that served in the army in India. There were children of William called James but also called Ellen. Perhaps one of these names comes from Mary's mother???

William b 1778 son of James was buried in Wigan in Nov 1792 . It says son of James of Dalton. Think I can cross him out.
But on the other hand there is another William Draper bapt Wigan 1779, but he was from Pemberton and the 5th son (or child) of the family. Interesting hey.

I think Pemberton was quite a way from Dalton, even though still classed as Wigan.
