I have been researching the Culmer family of Thanet, Kent, some of whom are ancestors of mine. I found transcripts of old Kent wills and one in particular has aroused my curiosity. It is the will of Joan Culmer, dated 20 April 1547 in which she mentions two of her daughters, Dionyce and Rabedye. Dionyce I can find modern versions of but Rabedye has me stumped. Has anyone ever come across this name before?
Thanks
John

Amazingly even google had no proper hits for this.
I was wondering if you could post the image so that we could see the writing for ourselves.

Re: Strange girl's name
Hi Tina,
No relation as far as I know. The Culmer family were almost totally contained within Northeast Kent.

Re: Strange girl's name
I've just realised I posted this a few years ago. A few members offered suggestions but couldn't find an answer. Sorry if I've wasted anyone's time.

Re: Strange girl's name
As it is a transcript I wonder if it was transcribed wrongly and should be Rebekah. Perhaps ask the actual archives where it is lodged to have a look at it and tell you what it says.
Is there any sign of this girl's marriage and if so what is she called then?

Re: Strange girl's name
Of course! I had thought of Rebecca which wouldn't have fitted, but spelt with a k it would in handwriting. I feel sure you will be right on that.Education Officer wrote: Rebekah.
