Free Parochial Cemetery, Rice Lane

Post by Manila Jack »

Could anyone advise please? Whilst searching on Ancestry I came across a record of the burial in 1879 of Meriano Delacruz in the Free Parochial Cemetery, Rice lane, Walton. It gives his "abode" as workhouse. I'm guessing the workhouse became what we used to call Walton Hospital although that's only a guess. Would anyone know if there would be any workhouse records still surviving which might shed light on who this poor man's family was?

There are not a lot and also not for regular years although there are some. It should be the Walton Workhouse as this used the Walton Parochial Cemetery more than any other Workhouse, although it would be worth checking others just in case.

Email direct to the LRO to check the dates http://liverpool.gov.uk/libraries/archi ... y-history/

This death was registered in the Liverpool registration district not the West Derby registration district. If he had died in the Walton Workhouse the death would have been registered in the West Derby district. He must have therefore died in the Liverpool Workhouse. He will probably be mentioned in records for the Liverpool Workhouse at the Liverpool Record Office. This appears to be the death index:-

Name: Merio Delacruz
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1834
Registration Year: 1879
Registration Quarter: Jan-Feb-Mar
Age at Death: 45
Registration district: Liverpool
Inferred County: Lancashire
Volume: 8b

Thanks to you both for your advice. I'll follow up on those leads.
