Thinking of our heroes

Post by MaryA »

Some wonderful programmes on today, remembering our heroes without who we would not be here and have our freedom today. God Bless them all.

My sentiments also. This date will always have a very special meaning for me. In 1945 my foster sister married a 101st Airborne paratrooper who jumped into Normandy at around 1.15 AM on the morning of the 6th of June from a Dakota that was on fire after being hit by heavy flak. The pilot and his crew kept the plane flying long enough for all the paratroopers, except one who had been injured, to get clear but didn't have time to escape themselves. The plane crashed while attempting to land and all the crew perished.
