Family Tree Legends Software

Post by lin »

Hi I have just bought this cd and when i entered information on to it i don't seem able to save it. I put a husband and wife in and when i put the daughter who was born before they were married and had the mothers maiden name it swapped them and the daughter became the husband. Am i missing something?

Hi and welcome to the forum, I'm not a user of this software so can't advise you on specific queries but have you initially done a "File>Save As" and given a name to your family?

I hope Kathryn is notified of your post and comes online as she will be able to give you much better advice, however, can you be very specific in telling us exactly how you are trying to do the save so that she can get a better picture of what is happening.

Lastly, have you tried any of the online tutorials which are often extremely helpful http://www.familytreemaker.com/Learn/Tutorials

Hi Mary Just looked at the tutorial and it is not the same as mine. Mine is actually called Family Tree Legends and i'm not sure about it. I was using a PAF file and that was much better. I will google your family tree maker and see about getting that as it seems closer to what i was used to. On mine there is no file save etc.
Thanks
Lin

Hi Lin,
Re Family Tree Legends....
In view of the fact it is advertised/promoted as a fully fledged family history program, it must have some bells and whistles and include a 'Save' function, otherwise it is no more than a toy. I note you say you purchased the program on a CD but it is advertised as a free download. I wonder if you have inadvertently got a demo disc or a pirated version?

From Pearl Street Software:
Family Tree Legends is a powerful and sophisticated genealogy program designed to make it easy for you to collect, display, and organize information about your family history. Whether it's notes, medical facts, pictures, or multimedia files, Family Tree Legends provides you with a single tool to capture every bit of information about the history of your family.

I would read 'capture' as 'Save'! While the program is listed as #8 in family history programs it doesn't get a good write up... http://download.cnet.com/Family-Tree-Le ... tml#rateit
Worth asking for your money back?

I have split this topic off from the Family Tree Maker review as I wouldn't want them mixed up. Any more information or advice about Family Tree Legends please add on to here.
