Post by dickiesam »

Looking for baptisms relating to these two births. Parents believed to be James and Sarah Belsford. Hopefully one will have Sarah's maiden name....

Births Jun 1893: Belsford, James Chorlton 8c 871
Births Mar 1897: Belsford, Sarah Ann Chorlton 8c 815

Hi, DS,

There's no maiden name available for Sarah on those baptisms.

Have you any census info for the family and did they have a Tryphena born 1890?

Hello,

LancashireBMD has the following marriage in 1884 for:

James T BELSFORD & Sarah CLARKE at Bradford, Christ Church

There is then another marriage in 1902 for
William Henry BENNETT and Sarah BELSFORD (Sarah CLARK) at Bradford, St Aidan.

1911 Census, 17 Wellesley St West Gorton Manchester (Piece: 23749, ED, institution, or vessel: 48, Registration District Number: 464)

William Henry Bennett/ 30/ married / Miner - Tunnel Driving / Manchester
Sarah Bennett / 42 / married (11 years) / Ardwick, Manchester
Henry Bennett / son / 5 / Manchester Bradford
James Belsford / stepson / 18 / Moulder Iron / West Gorton, Manchester
Sarah Ann Belsford / stepdaughter / 14 / Servant Domestic / West Gorton, Manchester

1902 - Marriage at St. Aidan, Bradford, Manchester - Sarah Belsford & William Henry Bennett.

As this is not Sarah's first marriage, her previous surname is given - Clark.

There is a marriage of a Sarah Clarke to a James Thomas Belsford at Christ Church, Bradford in 1884.

Hi Bert,
Thanks for looking. And yes there was a daughter Tryphena and yes I have the family on the 1891...

1891: RG12 Piece: 3173 Folio: 67 Page: 35
Address: 10 Junction Street, Gorton, Manchester
BELSFORD, James T Head 31 1860 General Labourer - New Mills, Cheshire [Note: He is also in a census as being from New Mills, Derbyshire. This is not a mistake because New Mills is on the border of these counties.
BELSFORD, Sarah Wife 25 1866 - Ardwick, Lancashire [She later married William Bennett in 1902 after James died in 1901]
BELSFORD, Tryphena Dtr 1 1890 - Gorton, Lancashire

Births Sep 1889: Belsford, Tryphena Chorlton 8c 802
Births Jun 1893: Belsford, James Chorlton 8c 871 [see stepson in 1911]

Births Sep 1895: Belsford, Sarah Chorlton 8c 807
Death Sep 1895: Belsford, Sarah Chorlton Age 0 - 8C 528

Births Mar 1897: Belsford, Sarah Ann Chorlton 8c 815 [see stepdaughter in 1911]

It is the James Belsford bn 1893 I am tracking. I have him from birth to death and his descendents, and it is his parents etc I am after.

Hi Alison and Karen,
Thank you for looking. I am trying to confirm the Belsford children born 1890 on as being to Sarah Belsford nee Clark(e), without buying a birth cert! :D

If the mother is Sarah Clarke I am fairly sure I have her parents John and Tryphena Clark. They are in fact looking after two of the Belsford children, Tryphena and Florence, in 1901 but they have given them the Clarke surname!
