I will be visiting the Liverpool Central Library next week in the hope of resolving several family history puzzles and hopefully breaking down a brick wall!
Having never visited an archive facility and being a genealogical beginner what advice would members suggest?
Many thanks
Richard

Re: Liverpool Central Library
Welcome to the forum where you will get good advice and a friendly atmosphere.
If you have browsed around the site you should have read that the Society has a Help Desk on the Archives floor of the Central Library on Tuesday afternoons, where some of the best sleuths around welcome a good challenge and should be able to help you. Take as much as you can of your research to date so that they can know how far you have got.
They will be able to suggest sources in and outside the 'secure' archive section, which needs advance booking for access, once they know where you are at in your own research.
Be prepared to become an addict!

Have an idea beforehand what you want to look for so you can find out if it is on microfilm or whether you need to use the search room.

Re: Liverpool Central Library
Hi, there's not a lot I can add to the good advice you have been given above.
Draft yourself out as much as you know in a tree diagram, and chat with the oldest members of your family - when I say chat I really mean listen, sometimes our elderly rellies need a little prompting but often they are very happy to have a willing listener. Do remember that their memories might not always be accurate but there may be a grain of truth in them and it's down to you to verify the details so try to take a few notes.
The Help Desk begins at 1.30 until 4.00 pm each Tuesday afternoon, 3rd floor William Brown Street Library.
If you were able to come on the second Tuesday of the month you could perhaps stay in town and come along to our meeting at the Quaker Meeting House, School Lane at 7.00 pm where you will be given a warm welcome also.

Re: Liverpool Central Library
Thank you for the warm welcome and helpful advice.
I will be in Liverpool for a few days meeting some old 'relies' and visiting the help desk in the library to try and break a brick wall I have encountered. I will bring a basic tree and all the info I have to date.
Fortunately my visit to Liverpool includes the second Tuesday of the month (11th) so I will plan to come along to the monthly meeting.
See you next week
Richard
