I am trying a different tactic in order to trace the birth of my G.Grandad Patrick Duggan in 1877. I have found a John Dougan born Glasgow 1841. He may not be the correct Father but as I am really stuck so though it was worth a try.
1841 Census Gorbals - 2m, born Lanarkshire.
1851 Census Gorbals - 10y, born Lanarkshire - Glasgow
1861 Census Gorbals - 20y, born Lanarkshire = (his cousin Colin Dougan 20y b.Invernessshire is also listed,he is a Seaman with the Merchant Navy)
1871 - Can't find John Dougan on census, did he join the Navy with Colin?
1877 - Patrick Duggan is born in England - Vague I know.
1881 - Can't find John Dougan on census,
1891 - died 15/06/1891 John Duggan, Assist Furnace Keeper. Widower of Ann McAvoy. Model Lodging, Main St, Coatbridge, Lanarkshire
Naval Record of John Dougan b.1841 (& Colin Dougan b.1841)

Thanks Katie, will keep link for future use.
Sadly it turns out this John is not the one I had hoped it was.
Just another dead end.
