You know, reading through those names gives me a cold chill - I knew a great many children were sent over there, but I had no idea there were quite that many.

'My' orphans (in fact they were my 2nd cousins, twice removed) were admitted to The Liverpool Sheltering Home (orphanage) when their mother died. (Actually they weren't technically orphans as their father was still alive!)
When they were taken to Canada in 1909 they were aged 9, 6, and 4. Upon arrival they were split up, and sent to live with different families. I was able to trace the 9-year-old via the Canadian census ... she was living with a couple in their late 50s. (She died aged 40 without ever marrying). Canadian descendents of the 6-year-old were researching her UK roots some years ago ... so presumably she had fared reasonably well. The little 4-year-old though (she was 5 by the time the ship docked in Quebec) ... well, unfortunately I was never able to trace her.

An awful lot of the children just 'disappeared' after reaching the other side.

Just reading up on the Liverpool Sheltering Home, having had my interest kindled by this thread. My relatives weren't technically orphans either, but could so easily have ended up in Ontario. I suppose they were 'lucky' to go to Fazakerley.
