Newspaper report of accidental death and inquest
Newspaper report of accidental death and inquest
Wondering if help is about to clear this up on behalf of a friend....
George Arthur Greenwood was a blacksmith working, I have been told, at Cammell Laird's in Birkenhead. He died on or about the 18th of February 1928 as the result of an accident, aged 27 years. His home address was 6 Emerald Street Toxteth and he was buried in Toxteth Cemetery on the 23rd of February 1928. We now know his grave.
Any information about the accident would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Newspaper report of accidental death and inquest
His death is registered in Liverpool. If he died at Cammell Lairds they're in Birkenhead (I think!) so death would be registered there. I'd expect him to be taken to hospital there too if he had an accident in the shipyard. What does his death certificate say?
Thought this sounded familiar. There is a similar request about George Arthur Greenwood is also on Roots Chat but as Arthur George Greenwood. Could the poster there be a relation?
MaryA could you do a link please to save any duplication. Thanks.

The gravestone etc is on Roots Chat as well.
We need a link to save duplication.
Perhaps your friend could contact the poster on Roots Chat who is asking for the same thing.

Re: Newspaper report of accidental death and inquest
Hi folks,
The Rootschat posts are the same person known as Arthur George and George Arthur Greenwood. I have all his details re burial and my friend found the grave and the grave inscription via Rootschat.
I did think it odd that the family story was that he died as a result of an accident in Cammel Lairds but the death was registered in Liverpool. Hence the query re the circumstances of his death. It is just a niggling detail, trying to find out did he fall or did something fall on him, or was he hit by a tram?
We don't have the death cert. There is one but it is not 'accessible' and we don't want to buy another if we can find anything in the papers or a report on an inquest.

Re: Newspaper report of accidental death and inquest
I'm afraid at that date the newspapers would need to be researched at the Record Office, too recent to be online, sorry.

Re: Newspaper report of accidental death and inquest
British newspaper archive does have some newspapers from the 1920s through to 1950s. (I was able to find details of my g-grandmother passing an organic chemistry exam!) but nothing for Merseyside in this era.
Birkenhead library has all the newspapers from that era on microfiche.
