Hi all. Could anyone be kind enough to take a look at this marriage cert, and work out my great great great grandfathers name please. He was born in Ireland if it helps with a name i'm unfamiliar with. Thank you good people Ian
I think that is a rather florid m after the S with a lead-in 'curlecue', making it plain Smith. If you split off the 'ith' it becomes more visible. This is reinforced by the enumerator in the 1851 where George is living with his in-laws the 'Redican' family.

Sorry Dickiesam, it is his father, the one that looks like Barry? Barnay? Though ive not found a single Barry of any surname in my Irish searches. Cheers

My first and second take was Barney. Possibly a familial name for Barnabus or Bernard? Others will have their own suggestions. See: http://wiki.name.com/en/Barney
