Chat about GRO

Post by padjo1 »

Thanks Mary A,

Went with mum who is 73, she was amazed, so much information from so long ago. To the point when she started recognising street names, and places she new, we where looking for anybody she new haha.

Hopefully next Sunday or the one after I will be back again, I am so into going the records office, if anyone wants a small look up certainly don't mind, we did Colette's first, as a promise is a promise, if I got there. :D :D

Hopefully these may help Colette, I am sure she will let us know, if they do, there was too much info for on here.

regards

Michelle

When I first started my family tree I became so obsessed I was there every day. I became a part of the furniture. I'm there every day now but I get treated like staff. I was there to-day was you on the fiche. Wait till you hit some of the other records and put some meat on the bones. That's what I like unfolding their story.

Ah!! you were on Microfilm Number 1. I stopped to help you with the film. I was on number 2.

Next time I see you down there I'll introduce you to the workhouse records. Oh! the workhouse a mine of information in there don't get me started on all my favourite records I love playing with. I am stocking up on work at the moment to do while they are shut come the big move back into next door. I cant wait. Also in the electoral roll for that period woman were allowed to vote in the local election so you will actually find women in them.

Thanks Katie

That would be brilliant, I am so stuck with My Great Grandmother as you may have noticed on my previous posts, regarding "Amy Patterson". Was hoping today she was on the electoral records, we were looking at, however she is still elusive. Now I am out of ideas where to go.

My grandad, maternal side was born at Smithdown workhouse and his sister at Walton workhouse, and we picture Amy wearing long black dress, with shawl and boots with no laces, what a hard life. The address she died "of 12 Mansfield Street", we found, which confirmed my great, great Grandparents, on my maternal side and one of their childrens Mother in law lived there but no tace of her, then she passed away in 1922, so any later she would not be on them anyway.

Would love to see the Workhouse records, she appears on no census records other than 1911 in Birkenhead, was " Amy Patterson" her real Name" ???

Can't believe it was you today, I was convinced you worked at records office, and me on a hasty return from Wales with no face on and hair unkempt haha  . Did promise Collete I would try, so maybe I can be forgiven on this occasion :D

Thanks for any help or ideas you maybe able to give

regards

You should see my hair some time down there. As I keep saying to people the information is there , you just have to go around the block a few times before you get in the front door!! so to speak.
