Hi,
Since you know William married Jean Clucas I suggest you get the marriage certificate in order to establish William's age and the name/occupation of his father. You should also check the names of witnesses in case they are siblings or otherwise related. Do you know when and where he was born?

You can purchase the cert online here: http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certi ... efault.asp
Marriage: Jean Clucas and William Lawson
Registration district: Runcorn, Cheshire
Year/qtr of registration: 1966 / Jan-Feb-Mar
Volume no: 10A; Page no: 1157.

The marriage cert information would enable us to find if William had siblings. Also his birth date will enable you to find the exact date of his death. The death cert will tell you who the informant was and their relationship to William.

There are 13 possible Lancashire deaths between 1973 and 1978.

Hi D.S
Good advice. If Wm stayed in Cheshire where he married, there's a couple more deaths around the year.
I can't find births for Lawson/Clucas.
Wm only lived 10 yrs approx after marriage, so perhaps he and his wife were older, maybe a 2nd marriage?
As you have said, the certificate is the way to go.
