Ok. Since the CWGC have changed their Website and may I say it's much better than the previous version. I have been searching for the soldiers in my database who I was unable to previously locate on the old site. And may I say my errors list to give to them next week is now longer?
I would like an opinion on this?
I have the following service man:-
Royal Field Artillery
Goodier
112821
John
Driver
Liverpool
Killed
NO RECORD
24th-September-1917
He was reported as Killed in a list published 24th September 1917. Now that you can search by regimental number I found the following entry.
http://www.cwgc.org/search-for-war-dead ... ODIER,%20J
He is recorded as dying 21st March 1921
The only death registration I can find is the following:-
Deaths Jun 1921 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Goodier John 40 Prescot 8b 746
Wouldn't his death have been registered in March 1921?
I suppose he could have been reported as Killed and turned up later as wounded. The Prescot registration could mean he died in Rainhill Asylum like many unfornunate service men from World War One. Sorry I started this index, oh well additional research for my project.
What's going on?

There could have been a delay in registering the death in 1921, taking into the next quarter. Easter Day fell on March 27 in that year which would reduce the period available for registration as the registrars' offices probably closed for the usual bank holidays.
Your thought that his death was wrongly reported in 1917 is probably correct. Have you tried cross-checking in Soldiers Died in the Great War?

M. no. 31
Looked up his buriel to-day. He was buried on 31st March 1921 and his home address is listed as 2c 4h Back Myers Street. So I think it's possible he was incorrectly reported killed and turned up as wounded. I Also think he may have been in Rainhill hence the Prescot Death Registration I'll see if I can confirm this.
Thanks all

Hi Katie
He also served as 151864 in the Labour Corps, presumably transferring to them after being wounded. I'll check that tonight, as his number should tell us when he was transferred and also which LC unit he served with.
His SWB entry, which is under his LC number, shows that he enlisted on 20th October 1915 and was discharged on 1st December 1917, aged 36. The reason for discharge was "Sick" Para 392, xvi a
"Surplus to military requirements (having suffered impairment since entry into the service)."
Also worth bearing in mind that death only had to be registered within 6 weeks of occurring, so death in March and registration in the June quarter was certainly possible.

I think he may have died in Rainhill which I will check at a furture date. Here is one of your St Helens Soldiers whose date of death is incorrect on CWGC. I was going to pass it on to Lee but I think you are also involved with the projects.

John Thomas
Private

1st August 1917
Previously reported wounded, now reported Died of Wounds
Recorded Date of Death on CWGC 1st August 1916
26th-September-1917
This soldier appeared in a casualty list dated 26th September 1917, according to CWGC his date of death is recorded as 1st August 1916, I queried his date of death and checked SDGW which records his date of death as 1st August 1917. I checked the GRO fiche to-day and he is listed as dying 1917. I have him on my list for London and I have copied the fiche entry and SDGW. Sorry I started this. I am going to have a good talk to them because when you come across these errors (I have 9 for 1917) and they expect those of us who are voluntarily working on these soldiers to get death certificate which would cost £83.00, they should take other sources, obituaries etc. Well here's hoping.
