Fire-Watchers, Liverpool

Post by Mary Parfitt »

Could anybody tell me if there are records of Fire-Watchers, during WW11, please? My Uncle John Price, was a Fire-Watcher during the early years of the war. I understand he covered the St Joseph's Parish area. Many thanks. Mary Parfitt (1076)

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I suspect that like many of the posts created and used during WWII, records may have been kept locally rather than centrally, however, I would think that the places you should make enquiries would be the Record Office, where details may have been passed for safe keeping - see Liverpool Library Updates for where records are held (documents at Sandhills and microfilms in the World Museum) and also contact details.

Another place you could enquire would be The Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service They have a page about the history of the Service but there is also a "Contact Us", they might be able to advise if they hold any archives in the Merseyside area.
