WW1 Records

Post by Blue70 »

I've recently been looking at WW1 records for a brother of a Great Grandmother. I didn't know he was in the army until I found him on the 1911 Census in India with the King's Royal Rifle Corp. I got his Medal Card from the National Archives website and used some helpful Internet sites to understand what everything meant on the card. He had later joined the Royal Defence Corp a home based regiment that provided guard duty suggesting that he had been injured in some way making him unfit for combat.

I found a pension record for him on Ancestry containing 5 images that explained everything. All the information from when he joined up in 1907 as a regular for 12 years service and the places where he was based. He was in India from 1910 to 1914. He also spent some time in Egypt. It includes names of next of kin, confirmed for me that one of his sisters was living in Scotland at the time and had his father's address at the time. It finishes with details of his disability from service in France and his pension.

Isn't it wonderful when one little clue gives the evidence for a whole lot more. Well done!
