Liverpool merchants early 1800s

Post by crooner10 »

In tracing family history I have discovered a connection with James Cadett who was a sugar planter in Trinidad in late 1700s. He died in London in early 1830 and appears to have lived in Liverpool around 1820 at which time he had business connections with Thomas Leathom, John Gordon and Andrew Clark all described as merchants in Liverpool.
For want of census returns at these dates I would appreciate any suggestions of possible sources of similar information in or around Liverpool.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I think what might be useful to you are trade directories/poll books. We have a list of those held personally by some of our crew who will check them for you, listed here
http://liverpool-genealogy.org.uk/phpBB ... php?t=6906

There may also be mention of these merchants in the local newspapers, your local library may have online access to them, alternatively perhaps you could join the Lancashire library http://liverpool-genealogy.org.uk/phpBB ... newspapers

Hope these suggestions help.
