My aunt Isabella Greene Perkins (1906 - 1988) was born in Bridgewater, Plymouth County, Massachusetts the dau. of Enoch Robinson Perkins and Katherine Ray Turner.

Isabella was engaged to Gouverneur Brooks Sayles (always called "Brooks" or "Brookie") until his death in the early 1960s. He was quite a lot older than she.

His father was Joseph Borland Sayles and his mother was Minnie Kelsey Tuttle who lived in a large Victorian house in Taunton, Bristol County, Massachusetts. The Sayles's came from Dighton, Bristol County, Massachusetts.

G. Brooks Sayles was married to a woman from Fall River (family didn't approve since she was Irish and Roman Catholic) early-on by whom he had two sons. One was named Brooks and the other Robert (I believe). I believe Brooks the son lives in Connecticut.

Gouverneur Brooks Sayles died in Fairhaven, Bristol County, Massachusetts after he retired from his job in Lynn, Massachusetts circa 1963. He sold the family house in Taunton after his mother died and moved to his house on West Island in Fairhaven, Massachusetts. He was an only child.

I haven't a clue why he's being discussed on this site. I can assure you there was no "Mulatto" blood in these Sayleses.

Thanks for the warm welcome Mary A. I came across the board quite by accident by "Googling" with parenthesis "Gouverneur Brooks Sayles" who was my own aunt's fiancé (whom she never married). The GBS discussed on this board in the list from Dighton, Massachusetts is, unmistakeably, "my" Unlce Brookie (as we called him). This was an extremely well-heeled family. I hope the original poster does respond. Do you advise my sending a private message to her?

Are you based in The United Kingdom?

She is indeed in the UK, you would be welcome to send her a pm, but it may be that she is taking time away from the computer for a few days until the children return to school.
