Hi Sally
St Alexander's R.C was at 98 St John's Rd Kirkdale on the border with Bootle.

I'm going around in circles with Matthew & Bernard
Matthew married Mary A McArdle in 1874
1891 they have a Thos McArdle 60 bn Ire lodging with them.

Could Bernard have been Stephen's godfather??

Sarah Mullholland/Grant/Jenson

Post by dickiesam »

Hello Sally13,
Is this the 1933 birth you referred to?
GRANT, Alfred F - Mulholland - W. Derby - 8b - 793.

If this is the birth I am wondering why Sarah gave her maiden name to the registrar but gave her former married name to the child? Do you have this birth cert with the father's name on it?

And is she Sarah Jane Mullholland on the marriage cert to Stephen Grant? The only Sarah M I can find is Sarah Jane M in Prescot aged 9 in 1891 with parents William and Catherine, and in 1901 she working in a local hotel. But there's a problem... if she is the mother in 1933 she would have been 51! So how old did she say she was when she married Stephen? 'Tis a puzzlement... Or am I missing something?

Hi Dickiesam
Like you I'm confused.
Too much guesswork I think.
Sarah C Grant who marries in 1928 to Kresten Jensen doesn't have another surname listed.
How do we know she was Stephen's widow?
As for Alfred born 1933, maybe he belongs to another branch of the family?

The Grants

Hi Tina,
Great emus think alike. I totally agree. There seems to be too many assumed links rather than proven ones.
Regards from a wet and windy Ireland!

I'm getting confused here

Can you start again with the proven known facts so we can help you work backwards. Do you have no living relatives who can help you sort the family out in the earlier part of the 20th century?

hiya everyone the info on m cert sarah christine mullhollhand age 22 m s grant 1919 s grant father is bernard. sarah father is thomas. she marries k jenson in 1928. alfred grant born 1933 was not k jensons son. so i assume she had the child to somebody else after k jenson and gave her former married name grant so the child would have the same surname as my father who was born in 1919 to stephen grant. i will have to get some certs to verify this. sally13
