Mary
I get the feeling that neither you nor Tina sleeps as you atre both so busy, and helpful. All received and noted.
I see that one Lord Archibald Campbell and wife were residents of G/dale Park in 1871, younger son of the 8th Duke of Argyll. I wonder what he was doing there!
I'll let you know if I find out...
D
It's obviously a bit of a moneyed area - don't think I'm going to find any of my lot there
We'll watch this space to see if you find out anything!

You beat me to the Mercury which was to be the next stop! I wonder what 'mercantile profession' a duke's son, even a younger one, would fit into in Liverpool. Manchester men and Liverpool gentlemen?

Might have another look later with more time, every time I did a search I got sidetracked at work and was timed out

In the Manchester Times Saturday, November 5, 1870; Issue 675 there is a description of the unveiling of equestrian statue of the queen outside St George's Hall, in attendance was Lord Archibald Campbell who is said to be brother of the Marquis of Lorne.
The Leeds Mercury Wednesday, August 23, 1871; Issue 10411 tells of the return home to Inverary of the Marquis of Lorne and his royal bride, Princess Louise .... The Volunteers including the Argyle and Bute Forces will be drawn up in front of the Castle (Inverary) and line the road downward on to and beyond the Frow's Bridge over the river Arey, Lord Archibald Campbell's Company, The Inverary Rifles, forming a special guard of honour at the castle entrance.
Quite a number of advertisements, would this be the same person?

The Belfast News-Letter, Wednesday, February 21, 1872; Issue 55258
CAMPBELL - Feb 16th at Grosvenor Crescent, Belgrave Square, London, the wife of Lord Archibald Campbell, of a son.
So their main house at least is in London presumably, and I don't know any more about his mercantile profession.
He was here for the visit of Prince Arthur in May 1872.
