Thanks Tina.
I only know the Holmes family were in Pitville Avenue by the photo I retored from 1932, but interesting that William was on that photo so I know he was there then - sadly I dont know how long they were there. I should get some more info from the marraige cert I have ordered for William and Margaret.

Marriage cert has turned up.
So I now know William lived at Podium Road when he married in October 1934, his new wife Margaret lived at Rodick Street, Walton.
Also according to that his father Thomas was still alive in 1934 I cant find his death anywhere, verbal history goes he was killed by a tram but cannot find any records for that at all, or death in Toxteth at all in Fbmd.
At least I know I have the right parents now, all I need to do now is raise the fee to be able to enquire via Barnardos.

Re: Holmes Family
Hi I have just come across the thread and I know it goes back awhile I was hoping that I could connect with family. I am Doreen's son and she is in Great Britain at the moment though she will be coming back to Australia very soon. She has been visiting her brother William though he goes by the name of John and lives in Richmond. I have a copy of the long lost photo of Rita as well as other photos of William senior during the war. Anyway heres hoping. Thanks John

Re: Holmes Family
Hi Tina from the Wild West, nice to meet you. Thanks for all the work people have put in to find info on the Holmes family. I have learnt quite a few new things. Doreen (my mother) and Rita did come to Australia with Dr Barnados and settled in Sydney for a while. Dr Barnados then moved mum to Canberra (which at the time in the early 50's was a cold and sparse place) to live and work for a family. She spent the next 30 odd years there before making a move to Batemans Bay NSW, now she is living in NW Tasmania and has been there for 8 years or so. She has gone back to the Mother country twice now with the Child Migrant service. She is there at the moment but will be leaving very soon. I dont know a lot about Rita though she did travel with the ice show for a number of years before settling in California where she has worked for a charity for a number of years. I saw my Grand Mother Margaret in the late 70's when she was living in Liverpool. She lived a quiet and lonely life there. As a kid she always sent us parcels at Christmas and birthdays.
