Very interesting that such an old post can be brought up to date in this way.
I'm so glad that the Society hosts this forum and allows me enough server space that I don't need to prune old posts as some others do, so this one was still found.

There were several offers of the mill in the Mercury. Interesting that it was still being described as a windmill, though the railway embankment probably had blocked any wind some years earlier. The tower was still visible on the only illustration I have found, dating from the 1860s, but no sails.
