All their solutions we have tried when matters were very bad a few months ago, suddenly all came back to normal. I tend to think it's best to just have patience and sit it out for a day or so and it comes back again. I have a log that I'm not sure what to do about but at some point I will be forwarding it to the developers.

I don't want to give the impression I know what I'm talking about, because I don't. Would the, August 7, 2020 updates, found at the bottom of the page "Powered by phpBB" be of any use towards the problem?

Thank you, I'll get the weekend over and have a word with our webmistress about whether she updated, but since that is only 9 days ago, probably not, but we were definitely up to date before that as we spent a whole day not long ago updating everything, she is extremely careful and takes a back up of our board and posts before even considering taking the next step.

PS all seems to be working for me now, as I expected, it just takes a day out now and again. Hope it's ok for our users too - just had confirmation from one that all is well.

Hi Mary,

As you suggested, since 1 July I have been keeping a log of my failed and successful logins. At what point do you want the data?

Discussions with webmistress needed about how we take this forward, keep the log up for the time being please and I'll let you know, probably not until the end of summer because of personal commitments and distancing as we prefer to get together to hash things around.
