Recentmarrige look-up
Re: Recentmarrige look-up
Hi Dave
Yes, I'm still here! I can't believe two years have passed since we were last in touch!
I see my cousin, Ailsa's daughter every now and again when I'm in England. Ailsa is still around but getting on a bit now. I did mention you to her daughter who seemed to think you might already be in touch with the family.
You've reminded me to carry on with the search for that side of the family. Have you come up with any startling discoveries?
Nice to hear from you again
Barbara

Re: Recentmarrige look-up
there were 2 marriages in this period involving a man called Michael Hogan, & a woman named Mary Ellen. One is the Mary Ellen Smith that you refer to. Another is Mary Ellen Gannon from Chorlton. I don't know which is the correct one!dickiesam wrote:Hi and welcome,
Do you have the certificate for the parents' marriage...which would give their fathers' names and occupations?William's parents were, Michael Hogan, born Liverpool 1874, died Liverpool June 1926, & Mary Ellen Hogan (nee Smith) born Leigh Jan 1876.
Going by their years married in 1911 I think this could their marriage.....
Jun qtr 1894: Hogan, Michael and Smith, Mary Ellen - Ashton 8d 735
The registration district of Ashton [Ashton under Lyne] would fit with the south Manchester location of the family in 1901.
Edit to add: Unless I am looking at the wrong family they are at 15 Garibaldi Terrace, Everton, in 1911, not 7 Greenwood Terrace. Perhaps a typo in your post?
Re: Recentmarrige look-up
It would depend on the name given for the mother's maiden name on the birth certificate. Were any of the children born after 1911 as that information would have been given in the indexes as well.

Re: Recentmarrige look-up
No children born after 1911.
Children were William born c 1895 d 1953, Thomas Joseph c 1897 d 1916, Martin c 1899, Ellen (aka Mary Ellen) c 1900 died 1934, Catherine c 1903, Joseph c 1905, & Michael c 1907. There were apparently 4 other children who died in infancy.
At the time of the 1901 Census they were living at 19 Sidney Street, Hulme, South Manchester.
For the 1911 census they were living at 15 Garibaldi Terrace, Everton.
I am really stuck on finding if my Great Grandfather, Michael Hogan's, wife was Mary Ellen Smith or Mary Ellen Gannon.
Some of the children seem to have been born in Manchester (Chorlton), & others in Liverpool (West Derby).
Incidentally, Michael Hogan for the 1881 Census was living at 10 Conway Street, Everton. His parents were Irish.

If you're certain of the above facts,
Adelaide Hogan was born and died 1916, buried at Ford Cemetery, Address, 7 Greenwood Terrace. Mothers maiden name, Gannon, Free BMD.
