Sorry Dickiesam...I beg to differ...now I don`t know whether it was classed as a District register office....but Sefton General Hospital had a register office WITHIN the hospital for births and deaths ...I have in fact used it a couple of times...don`t know if it is still open...its over 35 years since I used it....allan :?

But wouldn't the one in Sefton Hospital be solely for registrations of births/deaths that took place in the hospital itself. That was the case with the Register Office in Walton Hospital, they wouldn't have accepted an event that had occurred outside the hospital.

Hi Garstonite,
What I was trying to clarify for any 'newcomers' reading the posts was that a Wavertree BMD would not appear in the GRO Index as Wavertree but would normally be registered as West Derby. Similarly, a Garston event would not be registered as Garston in the GRO Index.

I have come across, as many here will have as well, people from outside Liverpool searching the Indexes unsuccessfully for a 'Liverpool' event because they know their ancestor was born in Liverpool. Then they discover that the district of registration could be West Derby or, from 1881, Toxteth Park.
