Can anyone help me on two questions re the Welsby's of Huyton / Roby.
1. Can anyone shed light on the family trade(s) or occupation(s) in the 1600 - 1800 period?
2. When and possibly why did Welsby family members start to emigrate to Canada? to Australia?

As Bertieone asks, more info please. When is the first time you find 'connected' Welsby family in Canada and Australia? And what evidence links them to Huyton and Roby, usually referred to as 'Huyton with Roby'?

Hi Bert,
That topic certainly points in the right direction given that any civil BMDs in Huyton with Roby would come under the Prescot Registry Office, so parish records could also come under Prescot.

William Welsbee 1623, Timothy 1688 - 1721, Henry 1750 - 1828 and then William 1825 which is my connection into the family.
My thought process is that I know that William and his father (Thomas 1791 - 1856) were engineers - William in the emergent railways. So the first question is how did they become engineers? And why were the family sufficient well positioned in society to be both well recorded and well established - up to today - in this area?
The second thought is that there is a William Welsby born 1851 in Toronto Canada who is (to my mind erroneously) connected to Thomas as a grandson. This William is one of several Canadian Welby's I have come up with...
