Thanks Mary......Dubai isn't everyone's cuppa! I'm the one who told Gary "Well don't think I'll be coming to visit - it's a r***y building site full of Russian prostitutes"! Maybe in '95 it was but I can't get enough of it now! If he was based in Dublin I'd be spending all my time with my head stuck in musty old books.........I'm beginning to think EVERYBODY originated in Ireland!

Gutted  Tried to set up and record it before I left yesterday but whatever it is we have won't let me set it up so far in advance. Hoping I can get it on YouTube as BBC iPlayer is only available here if you pay for it! I bet it'll be a cracker too!

Thanks Leigh, I have merged this with a discussion we started a little while ago when the programme was postponed.

I thought the John Bishop episode was the best of the series. I enjoyed the part about the stokers (marine firemen) as some of my people did that work. I also loved John's reactions while learning about his great, great grandfather Charles Bishop's career changes.

It was definitely one of the best, didn't he have an interesting life?

Our Katie and Joyce will probably charge half a crown to speak to them now they are TV stars - anybody notice them walking through the background?

Too quick for me, so it means a slow forward on replay to catch them.
What about the "Great Western Docks" which are new to me? To be fair, there was a sign of some sort in the background which the narrator or writer picked up.
Enjoyable, but always many unexplored avenues.

Noticed that, I think he was on the boat when we saw that in the background, but I wasn't sure if it was on the Birkenhead side rather than our side.

Could it be the building on the far right, the name on it isn't clear but I suspect it must have been connected to the Railway.

Hi

I really enjoyed it as well, I thought it was as good as the Kim Cattrall episode, does that mean that Scousers have led the most interesting lives???

John has said in interviews that they looked at his Irish roots and there might have been a story there but there wasn't enough proof or it wasn't a strong enough story. He's joked about wearing balaclavas so there might have been a possible link to political events in Irish history.

He's also said the family are going to sort out a gravestone for Charles Bishop. Charles is buried at Toxteth Park cemetery in a family plot but it's currently an unmarked grave. His wife and two other family members are also buried in the grave.
