I was also thinking that since her mother died young (if that is the right Sarah), she maybe wasn't too sure about stuff like her birthday. But, wouldn't the officials know when she went and got a passport?

Thanks
Geir
What country issued the passport and when? If the passport was issued outside the UK it is very unlikely Sarah would have a birth certificate to prove anything. There would be no way for officials back then to check if her information was correct.

I assume it's British - wouldn't think she became a Norwegian citizen.

Hi,
May I make a couple of suggestions about the images you have kindly posted for us?

First, can you change the orientation to from vertical to horizontal. Many of us no longer have the flexibility in our necks to look at images sideways! And even for those who do, horizontal would be a lot easier to read. And I could stop turning my monitor on its side! :)
Also, being vertical, images of certificates take up so much screen space.

And second, it is essential that you crop the image to show ONLY the area that is in contention which we are discussing. That way certificates won't 'run off' the screen sideways.

If you don't have the facility yourself, Photobucket has an excellent image 'editing' facility which can crop and resize any scan you upload.

Hi,

I will try cropping next time. I tried turning it before, but it still uploaded wrong, but will try this again with future uploads.

Thanks

Hi,
Thank you for modifying the images. I have now taken the pillow off my desk!
An advantage of cropping is that you can then enlarge the image, within limits of course, to bring out detail in script etc.
In case you haven't found the Photobucket Crop tool yet...
Select the image you want to work on. Click on Edit at the top of the screen, Select Adjustment from the options at the bottom of the screen, then select Crop. The image will appear with a small blue square in each corner. You can move the squares with the cursor to include just that part of the image you want to keep. Click Apply. Then click 'Save as copy'. That means you retain the original image as well as the cropped one.

An example... but not your Lucy!

I may have missed this earlier, but are you in Norway? If yes, I have to ask in connection with her passport, when and in what circumstances did Sarah McDonald nee Widders arrive in Norway? This is the style of UK passport introduced in 1920.

Yes, that is the relation to Norway. Sarah Agnes was born in 1891.

Concerning the passport. I haven't seen it yet, but I only think some of it is in my mother in laws possesion (whatever that means?).

Thanks

I can't see a birth registration for Sarah Agnes. Do you have her birth certificate and what is her birthdate and where was she born?

She was born in Liverpool 11th October 1891. I don't have her birthcertificate, no. I am not sure if there would be any inforamtion on it that I don't have.

Looks we may have another Sarah who changed her middle name?

There are only two birth registrations in Lancashire that fit, unless she was registered very late..
Births Dec 1891: McDONALD, Sarah Ann - Liverpool - 8b - 78
Births Mar 1892: McDonald, Sarah Ann - Liverpool - 8b - 25

In fact there were only three Sarah McD registrations in England between Dec qtr 1891 and Mar qtr 1892. The third one was Sarah Amy in County Durham, Dec qtr 1891.
