I'm having trouble finding carpenters who are willing to take on the job of recreating the St James Memorial... I admit it's a bit of a challenge!
Apparently the only people who specialise in this sort of thing are in London, I find that hard to believe.
It's a big job and at the moment I need to get a few quotes so I can apply for funding. Anyone who takes on the job will be working from an old, and not completely clear, photograph to create a replica of a quite intricately carved wooden reredos and name panel. It needs to be as close to the original design as possible. At the moment I don't have a plan of the memorial but I will look into getting one drawn up if that's what's required.

Re: Any traditional carpenters out there?
Hello Amanda,
I wish you well in that worthy project. Hope you don't mind my saying I think you need to find wood carvers not carpenters. The latter may be good at fitting doors, floors and kitchen cabinets, but wood carving is an art and skill in itself. Just googled 'Liverpool wood carvers' and got these hits:
http://williamswoodcarving.com/

http://www.thomsonlocal.com/Sculptors%2 ... Liverpool/
Some of these may not be relevant...

Hi Amanda,
DS is absolutely correct in what he says, perhaps getting intouch with the likes of these people will help.

Indeed a very worth cause, but you also need a wider audience than us, hope you have thought to enlist the aid of the Liverpool Echo to spread the word.

Re: Any traditional carpenters out there?
Thanks everyone.
DS you're right, I meant carvers - should proof read my posts more thoroughly!
I'll have a look through those links, I have spoken to a few local carvers that I found via websites etc but nobody has been interested so far, I was hoping there may be someone on here who has had experience of getting this sort of work done, a long shot I know but worth a go!
MaryA - I'm going to be on Radio Merseyside next week sometime and on Tues and Wed am filming for a remembrance day piece about the memorial with Northwest Tonight, haven't heard back from the Echo yet but I've got some follow-up press releases they might be interested in, publicity shouldn't be a problem!

Good luck with the responses. I think Bert's suggested site could be the one.alcavtay wrote:Thanks everyone.
