I am looking for the grave and death records of Elizabeth nyland (nee . Hodson) born in l`pool I think 1928 , married 1959 to james nyland , son clifford 1962. latter devorced. and died 1970-1971 . does anybody have any info on her death as we can`t find any records.

I think you need to discover just where she might have died, does the death of son Clifford give any clues? did he leave a Will that mentions her?

The nearest death - if she didn't marry again appears to be

Do you know Elizabeth's parents' names or her age when she married? You need to confirm her precise date of birth to assist finding her in the Death Index. There are two births in Lancashire that might be her:

Birth: HODSON, Elizabeth - West Derby - 1922 Mar qtr - [M/n McNab]
Birth: HODSON, Elizabeth - Liverpool - 1928 Jun qtr - [M/n Rowan]

And how do you know she died in the early 1970s without remarrying?

The only near match for her death I could find was the same one Mary A posted...

There is a later marriage for an Elizabeth Nyland but it is too recent to post.

Hi Mary like you I thought Clifford had died, but I don't think Lemondog meant it that way!!
He possibly married in Warrington in 1987.
His birth rego is in Prescot dec 1962.
Birth 2nd qtr 1928 Lpool Elizabeth Hodson maiden Rowan.
The marriage took place in March 1959, there is a daughter bn Dec qtr that year,
Nyland nee Hodson.

To proceed without guesswork I suggest you get her marriage cert. That will confirm her age and give a year of birth. You need to know her birth year for certain. There are no matching Nyland or Hodson deaths 1970 - 1980. She may have married again or simply changed her surname.

As this is not the case and there may be children of his marriage, have you followed this forward to make contact with any of them? You are unlikely to find any Banns online at that date, the only certain way to proceed is with the certificate for which Dickiesam has given the details. Do make sure you don't order through a subscription site, use http://www.gro.gov.uk

Meant to ask in my previous post, do you know what happened to the daughter born in 1959, apparently to the same parents? I have looked for a marriage for her without success up to 2005 and the same result for a death.

Leads me to consider that when the parents divorced the daughter went with the mother who then perhaps remarried.

Perhaps she went with relatives after her mother's death.
Maybe Clifford did too? Or back with their father?

Decrees absolute (1858 to present)
Find the decree absolute to obtain legal proof of a divorce in England or Wales by requesting a search (£) of the Central Index of Decrees Absolute. To do so, download Form D440 from Her Majesty's Courts and Tribunals Service website and post it to the Principal Registry of the Family Division.

I knew about James' 2nd marriage, or at least I assumed it was the same man. It was registered in Warrington, Lancashire. Year of registration: 1975; Mar qtr; Volume no: 35; Page no: 0929. For privacy reasons I won't post his spouse's name but can PM it to you. Initials CB?

Regarding her being alive, I haven't searched for Elizabeth in the Electoral Rolls from 2000 on until we have her YoB.

recieved the marriage cert for eliz hodson. 12 / 02 / 1959 age19 father william . lived at 48 chestnut grove liverpool 15 . married james nyland of huyton ,father also james . age 18 . I have a birth for an elizabeth hodson , 1939 mother alice hennessey married william hodson 1928. 2 other children michael and paul . the only death I can find on eliz is 1977 , liverpool . so she may have gone back to chestnut grove , can anyone check electrol roll around that time ? lemondog

Thanks for the new info. The Elizabeth birth to the Hodson/Hennessey marriage is: HODSON, Elizabeth - Liverpool South - 1939 [Sep qtr]
So the Elizabeth who married James Nyland was born in 1939 not 1929 as first thought which is why we couldn't find her earlier.

Unfortunately, this would appear to be a near perfect match:
Death: NYLAND, Elizabeth
Registration district: Liverpool
Year of registration: 1977; Dec qtr
Date of Birth: 7 July 1939
Volume no: 36; Page no: 1176.

In addition to the cause of death, the death cert will give you the home address of the deceased and where she died, and the name and address of the informant and their relationship to Elizabeth.

Those Electoral Registers will be held at the Liverpool Record Office. Unfortunately as they will be in document form they will be in the process of being transferred to the new library and probably not available until the Spring.

The best thing to do is to check by telephone before making any arrangements to visit to research.

Sorry, the Rolls that far back on not online. They would only be available at the Liverpool Record Office.

Best bet would be the death cert.
