Dead on Daggers! It was Cases Street. Just had a look on Google and the old pub on the corner is [or was] still there. Now the Midland Hotel, can't recall if that was its name back then. Rarely went in there because Yates' Wine Lodge up on Lime Street a little way down from the Warrington Arms was the meetup place for my crowd.daggers wrote:That is Cases Street, once running through to Clayton Square, now only a fragment where the fruit barrow is or was.

OK here's another train question. Does anyone remember any places in the city centre where they were aware of the rumbling of the underground trains? I remember one spot in Dale Street, near Moorfields. I know of someone who studied at Liverpool Poly in Byrom Street. She was able to tell the time because she could feel the reverberation of the trains throughout the classroom.

That would be after they built the loop line. St Georges Hall is another place where you get the rumble.

Yes Daggers it was - in the late 1970's. On the website http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/sites.shtml which Erika told us about earlier there is a whole section about the project. Its an excellent website packed with information. Well worth a read.
