Would you like to review a book about Liverpool?

Post by MaryA »

We have had an invitation to review the following book. As the offer is to Society Members, could I please ask that only a member respond. Whoever intends to contact Maria, please state this on this post so that she isn't inundated with a number of offers. When the book is read we would like a review of it posted on our own Board and also submitted to the Journal please.

I am writing from The History Press to make you aware of one of our publications titled The Liverpool Book of Days by Steven Horton. Taking you through the year day by day, The Liverpool Book of Days features hundreds of snippets of information gleaned from the archives of the city. Featuring a story for every day of the year, it includes famous historical events, such as the opening of the city’s first dock, the abolition of the slave trade, the opening of the Liverpool & Manchester Railway and the Hillsborough Disaster, alongside less well known and often humorous events from the city’s colourful past.

Featuring events from as early as 1207 right up to the present day, this fascinating selection is sure to appeal to everyone interested in one of Britain’s most historically rich cities.

On this day:

· February 6th 1959: Four prisoners formed a human ladder to make a run for it from Walton Gaol.

· November 7th 1960: A mock US presidential election in Liverpool gave John F. Kennedy a resounding victory.

· December 21st 1927: There was a chaotic scene in Liverpool city centre as two elephants broke free from their keepers:

As an organisation that is dedicated to the area, I am enquiring as to whether you would like to review or feature the book in any of your publications or on your website. I would be more than happy to provide you with a complimentary copy should you want to review the book or with any other material that might make an interesting feature. Also, it would be great to discuss the possibility of the author doing talks or participating in events where possible.

Hopefully this is of interest to you and I look forward to hearing your response.

Kind Regards,

Maria

Always interested in what people say about us, so I will offer, but if there are 100s of applicants I will take my chance in a draw.
