An interesting article in the NY Times Science section yesterday talked about inherited memories. Here's a part . . . "There are scientific studies exploring whether the history of our ancestors is somehow a part of us, inherited in unexpected ways through a vast chemical network in our cells that controls genes, switching them on and off. At the heart of the field, known as epigenetics, is the notion that genes have memory and that the lives of our grandparents -- what they breathed, saw and ate -- can directly affect us decades later."
If anyone would like me to send them a copy of that article, please provide your email address.

Re: Inherited Memories
I'd often thought for many years memory could be inherited. How do you explain the feeling when you visit somewhere connected with you ancestors that you've been there before? I've even been able to walk through streets I've never seen before and knew what buildings were around the corner. Odd.

I have been to (New) places & found that I had the nack of being able to navigate us to The Best local Cafes/Diners.
Particularly in North Wales & Mid-Lancashire, where a lot of My Ancestors come from.

Re: Inherited Memories
Not knocking the possibility of 'inherited memories' here....
I am sure we have all experienced that feeling of 'I've been here before' aka deja vu?
Some time ago I read an interesting theory about deja vu. It was thought that it could be experienced by people who have a slight defect in the connection to the the optic nerve from one eye. The defect results in the optical information being transmitted at a slightly slower rate than from the other eye.
The 'faster' eye embeds the information into the memory first. Then the slower eye delivers the same information and the brain already has a 'copy' and reacts with 'I've been here before'.

Re: Inherited Memories
I'd much rather have the far more romantic inherited memory syndrome, that sounds too technical to please us.
