Looking for Mrs Nancy Pinkstone

Post by Rosey W »

We are trying to trace a Mrs Nancy Pinkstone who lived in Liverpool l930-1960 -ish.
She was a family friend to the Worrall family who came to Bristol from Liverpool during WWII.
Older relatives died off and their children would love to know who she was - they still talk of her today! Not altogether sure 'Nancy' was really her name - think it was a nick/pet name for her. Know she lived around Kirklake Road area of Liverpool.
Any guidance on how we can trace who she was would be so welcome, bearing in mind we now live a couple of hundred miles away!!

I'll be at Crosby library next week and I'll have a look in the directories for any Pinkstone family around the that time. It'll be on the Friday when I'm there for the help desk. There's an Alice Pinkstone dying in the Crosby area in 1945 does that ring any bells? Or Pinkstones in the Soouthport area much later in the 20th century?

What sort of age was Nancy in the time period mentioned?

Remembering your Worrall was in Formby ( I was the Hilary who found the report on his funeral) I had a google for Kirklake Road and it's in Formby!

The index of wills on Ancestry has the probate record for

George Pinkstone of 10 Formby Street Formby a railway ticket collector who died 28 April 1921. Administration was granted to his wife Alice Pinkstone.

These must be related to your Nancy.

George is buried at St Peter's church Formby www.lan-opc.org.uk

In 1901 George and his wife Alice both born Wellington Salop were at 56 Norway Street Waterloo with 2 children Ethel aged 4born Harpurhey and George L aged 1 born Waterloo. george is a railway control man

In 1911 the family are at 10 Formby Street in Formby

George Leslie marries Alice A Pitt in the Ormskirk reg ditrict (this covered Formby at the time) in 1929

If they lived in Formby I suspect Alice A is your Nancy or her mother in law Alice.

George Leslie has a son who is probably still living so I will not post his name or year of birth. If you go to http://www.freebmd.org.uk and ask it to search for births of children with surname Pinkstone and maiden name Pitt born in Lancashire you will find it. This son also appears to have married within the area.

Hi Rosey and welcome to the forum. I noticed that you have already met our Hilary through one of her Help Desks, she's a very useful girl

Noticing that she gave you a few hints for searching for possible living descendants, and also that Dickiesam has sent you a private message I'm sure you will be well on your way by now.

Just my thoughts, like Hilary's, although Nancy could be a proper name, it was often as you seem to think, a nickname and so looking around for possibles it's reasonable to think it could be Alice.

Big thank you to Hilary, Mary and Dickiesam for your help. I really appreciate it down here in sunny Somerset!
Am picking through the information at the moment and trying to make some sense of it. Suspect I will have to get a few certificates as well.

Yes, please Hilary, if you could look at the Library next week that would be good. I have waited 20 odd years to discover who this lady was, I can easily wait another week!!!
Best wishes - Rosey W.

We bought our first house in 1963 from a Mr. Pinkstone, who was an estate agent in Formby. Can't remember his first name though. When he reitred he went to live in the Lake District.
