Price Family Blundellsands - Crosby.
Price Family Blundellsands - Crosby.
Hello all, it's been awhile for me here, varying reasons.
In 2009 Mayanbilly kindly found my cousin Edith A Price,- Blundellsands in 1914 Gores Directory.
She & her Brother Arthur R.Price, his Wife Hannah Jane & dtrs Amy 17 & Florence 15 were at 44 Bridge St Bundellsands in 1911- confectionary business.
Is it possible to access electoral rolls for these years 1914 to 1955?
Arthur died in 1922 interred Toxeth Park & I believe I've found Hannah Janes death in 1951 - Crosby & Ediths in 1955- Crosby.
Can anyone suggest please which cemetery would have been their resting place? I did see a map with Fords & 'Powerman'? They were C of E.
Still unable to find definitely their dtrs Amy b.1894 & Florence b.1896 Toxteth Park,in marriage or death due to frequency of those names used.Would so like to close these files nicely.
Any help very much appreciated,
Wendyem

From www.lancashirebmd.org.uk
1922
PRICE Amy
married
RHODES Hugh Q L
at
Blundellsands, St Nicholas
This record will not be online so you would need to purchase the marriage certificate for more details
At the same church in 1921
PRICE Florence married ELLERTON Edward
Again you would need to purchase the certificate for more details.

Re: Price Family Blundellsands - Crosby.
Hilary thank you very much for very helpful info. rekeying as I just manage to lose all of my post.
I had seen the Price/ Rhodes marriage & tried searching for that family for proof of..
Also the Price Ellerton marriage but there was a Wiltshire/ Price marriage in W.Derby also & at the time finances wouln't stretch to a guess for certificate.
I did however check the Toxeth Park cemetery again & found Hannah in same grave no. x one removed as her Husband. Edith may have been returned to
Cheshire - her birth place or if not I can now try the Thornton or Gt.Crosby cemeteries.
The Crosby Library is my next port of email call for electoral rolls, had earlier today been through Sefton Council website. Perhaps I'm nearing the end & some definite details will appear.
Thanks again, Wendyem.

Re: Price Family Blundellsands - Crosby.
If the family lived in the area of Blundellsands/Crosby etc. the marriages that Hilary found are far more likely than one in the West Derby Registration District which would cover up to the Bootle area, probably not far enough.Wendyem wrote: there was a Wiltshire/ Price marriage in W.Derby also & at the time finances wouln't stretch to a guess for certificate.
To make sure when applying through the GRO, which you can do online at www.gro.gov.uk make sure you specify that you only want the certificate IF the father's name is correct, then that will minimise the risk of ordering the wrong certificate.

Re: Price Family Blundellsands - Crosby.
Thank you MaryA,
I've just sent off queries to persons who seem to be related to these Families : Ellerton & Rhodes via Births registered to said parties. Becoming very hopeful so I am off to bed to dream pleasant dreams, ( just incase the realities don't match)
I so want them to have had a happy life.

Crosby Library does indeed hold the electoral registers but you will find that there are gaps for some of the War Years. I don't think 1915-1917 exist. Until 1928 only women over 30 who owned property are likely to appear. The entries are listed by polling district and address and there are no alphabetical lists of voters so you need to have a fairly good idea of the address to find anything.
The Cemetery itself opened in 1940, it was the Crematorium that was added in 1963Thornton Cemetery opened 1963

Re: Price Family Blundellsands - Crosby.
Thanks golflimatango, I would try electoral rolls for the 1940-50s & hope the address given for Hannah at her death was shared with Edith. Having had a business they may have been able to buy their home in Crosby.
Overnight dreams came true & two delightful people answered emails. Just need to make sure we all have the right folk now.

Re: Price Family Blundellsands - Crosby.
Good to hear you have received replies to your emails.
My apologies for misreading the opening date of the Thornton Cemetery.
You might also find directories helpful. Again a selection of the Liverpool Directories (which included Crosby) are held at Sefton Local History.

Re: Price Family Blundellsands - Crosby.
In Liverpool there were no Electoral Registers during the war, the last being 1939 and the next 1946, but I don't know if that covers all of Lancashire, best enquire with Crosby Library to see if the area you are interested in was different.Wendyem wrote: I would try electoral rolls for the 1940-50s

Re: Price Family Blundellsands - Crosby.
Thank you Hilary & MaryA, I would put my query as close to Hannah Janes death year as possible, delays came in today with other necessary chores, but I will get to Crosby Library tomorrow (via email) hopefully with no other side trips to cloud the issue.

So glad I moved on from past disappointments & popped in here again. So grateful to have found correct matches for my girls, was even able to help a Family contact to solve a mystery in his Family.
Thanks All.
Thanks All.
Re: Price Family Blundellsands - Crosby.
Well, that didn't work, an email in August last year must have found Crosby Library closed or very busy.Wendyem wrote: I will get to Crosby Library tomorrow (via email) hopefully with no other side trips to cloud the issue.Wendyem
If anyone feels they know of Edith Price & her probably resting place, I'd love to hear from you.

I am surprised you didn't receive at least an acknowledgment of your email to the Local History Section at Crosby Library. Here are their full contact details.
They will need an address to look at in the electoral rolls if they are able to do this for you.

Re: Price Family Blundellsands - Crosby.
Thank you Hilary, I too was a little surprised as I've always found Libraries very helpful here & o'seas. However things can go amiss, emails can be lost etc.
I didn't like to re-send email as it seemed a bit pushy. Perhaps I can do so now as some time has passed, they may even be aware of computer problems at that time.
Perhaps also an email to Thornton Garden of Rest. I had previously looked at that site to see if missing Mitchell cousin may have been mentioned in th CWGC.
No civilians online there tho'.

Re: Price Family Blundellsands - Crosby.
I'm sorry but I don't understand the last part of your post about a Mitchell cousin and Thornton Garden of Rest. They have no online records. If you mean the CWGC website they have civilian war deaths recorded.

Re: Price Family Blundellsands - Crosby.
Sorry, trying to get key all in before computer had another dizzy fit.-It died- now on netbook. I looked for Mitchell cousin to see if he was mentioned on CWGC list in Thornton, but aside from CWGC, saw no index of other burials (which may have included Edith Price, or not).Education Officer wrote:I'm sorry but I don't understand the last part of your post about a Mitchell cousin and Thornton Garden of Rest. I shall post a separate query for him soon.
I did see the probate entries, thankyou.
