Post by cwalker »

I am currently doing my mums family tree and I am looking if anyone knows anything about any Cornthwaites that lived in Childwall my mum remembers visiting her cousins in the 60's but lost contact
The parents where William Cragg Cornthwaite and Norah and they had three children Madeline(married a Gerard J Monaghan), john(married a Valerie Welsh) and Norah(married a Arthur Edward Alexander) they will all be in their 70's now
I know its a long shot but you never know its a small world

Many thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum.

We don't post information regarding possible living people for their own privacy, however we have tried to collect together a few hints to assist your search http://forum.liverpool-genealogy.org.uk ... =14&t=8154

Tina will see this post sometime soon and hopefully she may have some information for you as one of her main names of research is Cornthwaite.

Hi there and a warm welcome to you.
Thanks Mary re post!
I have loads of Cornies in my tree, they go back a lot further than yours.
Some are in Wavertree, I don't have a Childwall connection but you never know.
I shall see what I can find, if any info it will be sent by private message to you, respecting that people
may still be alive.
Cheers

Hi again, the 3 children you mention, their births are in this site, it will give year of birth, location and their mother's maiden name.
You may like to look at 192.com it's a pay per view site, quite cheap, it lists electoral rolls, you may find the son and the two married sisters.
Good luck
http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search
Norah & Wm married in Bradford 1928.

No connection to my Cornies.
I've found a William Cragg born 1900 in Yorks, it has to be him with this middle name.
He is living in Bradford in the following census aged 11yrs.
I won't list anymore details.

Remember when searching the online Electoral Rolls that there is now a 'tick-the-box' option available for householders to opt out of the published commercial version that is used online, so their names won't be on the list.

You should check for deaths of the people you have dates of birth for. Death certs will give you the name and address of the informant and their relationship to the deceased.

And I think you should track the grandchildren of William and Norah and run another ER check. The ER search site at http://tracegenie.com/ allows you to use an 'age decade' filter to reduce the number of hits and for £3.50 you get 24 hours of continuous access. Continuous means just that though. If you leave the site your access is terminated.

EDIT to add: PM sent.

Tks D.S :)
Hi C.W do you know which Cornies came from Kendal and how far back?
Edited later:
Wm's Dad Harry Thornton Cornie came from Kendal 1871 as did his wife Ethel Mary 1871.

Madeline C Cornie bn 2nd qtr 1931 Lpool rego, maiden Mullarkey
and married in Lpool 1959.
The following two siblings were born W Dby rego & Lpool North.
So, sometime from the marriage in Bradford 1928 they've moved to
Liverpool.
There's a Wm in 1938 Directory no middle initial living in Siverdale Rd Old Swan, he's a traveller.
There are 2 Monaghan/Cornthwaite births, in Solihull Birmingham.
Madeline's brother married in Lpool 1959 and her sister in 1961.
All 3 siblings have a middle initial of C, for Cragg??

There are a lot of Cornthwaite's from Kendal I have gone back to around 1790 but most of them moved away (Notts,Leeds,Bradford and Liverpool)so you never know there might be a connection down the line

Hello there, Madeline Cornthwaite was my mother; William Joseph Cragg Cornthwaite was my grandfather and Norah Cornthwaite, nee Mullarkey, my grandmother. I lived with them in Wavertree. I'm reasonably well informed about the family, especially as Granny was looking into the family tree before she died and left me the contents of her 'family box'. I'm intrigued to know who you are! Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

cwalker was a member of the forum who hasn't stayed with us very long, perhaps somebody who is posting their links around various messageboards in the hope of making contact with others, which hopefully has proved successful in this case.

If they don't respond to your post can I suggest that you hover your mouse over the "email" button and at the bottom of your screen you will see the address they registered with, you may be able to contact them that way.
