John McRobbie and May Piemonte
John McRobbie and May Piemonte
I have a John McRobbie and his wife May, m.s. Piemonte having a son John Adam born on 29/12/1883 in Lumphanan, Aberdeenshire but their marriage place is given in the Register of Births as being Liverpool on 8/3/1883. John McRobbies occupation was given as "Vocalist" which would suggest he might have been a Music Hall artiste and May Piemonte as she would have been prior to getting married, sounds as if she might have been foreign, possibly Italian. Any information on this couple would be gratefully received, as I can find no trace of them in Scotland.

This is the marriage..
Name: MCROBBIE, John married PIEMONTE, Annie May.
Registration district: West Derby, Lancashire
Year/qtr of registration: 1883 / Jan-Feb-Mar
Volume no: 8B; Page no: 821.
The marriage cert would provide clues to help find this couple in censuses, before and after the marriage. In particular their respective ages to find their YoBs. I haven't yet found a candidate for either at 1891 or after. Their YoB would also help find a possible death.
With one exception in County Durham all the John McRobbies are in Scotland in 1881. There are no Piemonte people in England, Wales and Scotland.

Re: John McRobbie and May Piemonte
Hi and welcome to the forum.
The LancsBMD site lists the marriage of John McRobbie and Annie M Pienoute, somebody obviously having difficulty reading the writing, as having taken place in West Derby, Register Office or Registrar Attended.
This often means that it may have taken place in an RC church, however a search of those available on Ancestry.co.uk has produced no result. It may have taken place either in one of those RC churches not yet online, a Non Conformist or indeed in the Register Office. Unfortunately the only way of obtaining the details from the marriage certificate is to order, the easiest and cheapest way is online using the reference given by Dickiesam above at http://www.gro.gov.uk
Please let us know any details you find, however they may well have been in Liverpool for just a short while, perhaps travellling with a company. Witnesses of the marriage may give some clues.
I also wonder whether Piemonte might be an assumed name for the stage.
