Re: Gore directory look up
Hi Erica, was hoping to find directories regarding the years 1912 to 1916 , can I ask you please if there is a Kilshaw family in Elias st Everton and if so what names are there?
I have for years been flumoxed by a member of the family who is not on the 1911 with the family, but I know she lived there in the years 1916 onwards .
ps ; see you are in the same neck of the woods as me, Hants.

Hi Ann
Sorry no Kilshaws in Elias St. There are however a lot of Kilshaws listed so if you'd send me a pm with the names you are interested in I will look them up.

Hi Ann
Gores/Kellys may have been printed for 1912/1913/1915/1916, however I don't know of anyone in the forum who has copies of these.
1911 for Elias street just has shopkeepers.
There are quite a few Kilshaw's listed.

Re: Gore directory look up
Hi Erika, thanks for looking for me, I had not been doing my tree as I had got back as far as possible at the time ,but the Kilshaw family lived in Elias st right up to around 1928 I think, the Kevan family were related to them who also lived on same street, what I had was on the 1911 census Ann Kilshaw widower ( have her background) & her children who were Mary born 1887 & Henry born I think 1884 their oldest daughter was Annie who is not on there ( take it she was married at the time) but have never found her birth . Annie died in 1958 & I vaguely remember her in her black shawl I being about 9 yrs old.
She married a James Thomason who was a widower and lived on same street in early 20s on the marriage cert she is down as Annie Burgess a widow ( never found that marriage )
Mary b 1887 was for some reason in an asylum in 1916 and sister Annie is down as next of kin as being Annie Birches of Elias st, their mother Ann died in 1915.
The funny thing about this is on the 1911 the mother Ann has put she had been married 29 yrs ! although I have her marriage cert which shows she was her husband Henrys second wife & it was 1884 he died in 1888.
so only married for 4 yrs ! as his first wife died in 1881 I wondered was daughter Annie born out of wedlock & had not been registered because of this.
Well sorry to have gone on a bit but as you can see I remain puzzled about where Annie was in 1911 and when was she born we know she was very old when she died , she never had children & the only Annie Burgess `s I have found had children.
Thanks once again for your interest also Tina who has helped me before a long time ago.

Re: Gore directory look up
Hi Ann K,
If you have the right Annie who married James Thomason in 1920 Dec qtr [Vol 8b - Page 558 - West Derby], and she was a widow, can you confirm the marriage cert has her surname as Burgess formerly Kilshaw nee Foster [her maiden name?], if she had been married and widowed twice. What does the cert actually say?

Re: Gore directory look up
The reason she has put 29 years married is I imagine because she hasn't understood the question and has guessed at about how long they would have been married.
I am a little confused with your posting but as I understand it, please correct if I have it wrong
Ann Foster (was that her maiden name?) married Henry Kilshaw in 1884 at Kirkdale St Mary.
The couple had 2 children Mary 1884 and Henry 1887 both these living with mother in 1911
Ann had another child Annie who, if I found the correct death was born in about 1876. This child was possibly born Foster or had Ann been married before?
Annie possibly married 4 times but had no children. Do you have all the marriage certificates and if yes please could you post them.
I'm. struggling to Find Ann and the children on the 1891 or 1901 census do you have that information?

Whose Annie Birches?
I've found Ann and children Mary and Henry in 1901 at 105 Elias Street but no Annie. Surname given as Kelshaw.
1891 just Ann and Henry together again as Kelshaw no Annie or Mary

Re: Gore directory look up
I think I've got it
Annie Foster daughter of Ann Foster who married Henry Kilshaw/Kelshaw married
Frederick R Burgess in 1914 at St Mary Kirkdale
Annie Burgess married James Thomason in 1920 at St Polycarp Everton
You would need sight of both certificates to make sure Annie Foster and Annie Burgess is the same person.

On that last census form the enumerator has crossed out the 'answers' that Annie should not have written. But she does say 3 children bn and 3 still living. And dtr Mary has a notation 'Feeble-minded - 5 years'. Explains why she was in an asylum in 1916.

Re: Gore directory look up
Hi All, my you have all been busy, sorry my posting was difficult to understand, I did have all that information and as you can see by Annies marr cert (thanks Blue 70) she was the dau of Henry Kilshaw and had married a Mr Burgess previously, the Annie who married a Frederick Burgess is not the same as my Annie as I had followed that line a good few years ago .
The family are on the 1901 at 105 Elias st , transcribed as Anny Kilshaw 49 widow , Mary 15 and Henry 15, again no dau Annie.
When the mother Ann died Dec 1915 at 107 Elias st, informant was dau Annie Burgess, I was just trying to find her marriage to Mr Burgess and hopefully when exactly her birth was.
Dickie Sam where do you see the citation about Mary being feeble minded ? when I look on the census its blanked out in white, on her records from the asylum that I got from Rainhill , they had said they didnt have any notes as to why she was in there and she was hard working and pleasant, she never had any visitors all the time she was there from 1916 till she died in 1969, I found that so sad if only we had known about her!
Thanks all of you,Ann.

Re: Gore directory look up
If Annie was the Annie Thomason who died in 1958 born about 1876 it is highly unlikely she was the daughter of Henry Kilshaw and Ann Foster. It is possible she was the daughter of Henry and his first wife - do you have the first wife's name? The other possibility is that she was illegitimate and used henry's name to make herself not appear illegitimate.
On the marriage certificate of Ann Foster to Frederick Burgess who is given as her father?
Do you have Annie Kilshaw on any census with her parents?

Just checked 1914 Gores again to be sure.
Very few addresses listed and nos 105 and 107 are not.
So they were probably there, but just not accounted for!

The blanked out areas on the images were removed once the 100 year rule had elapsed late April. The early release of that census was conditional on the privacy rule being maintained in relation to that end column.Dickie Sam where do you see the citation about Mary being feeble minded ? when I look on the census its blanked out in white,
