Tempting find Simone. But it would mean Ellen was still having children 30 years later. :?:
Surely not the same couple?

SOUTH YORKIE 2012

Re: JAMES BICKERSTAFF

Post by SOUTH YORKIE 2012 »

There is a Robert Bickerstaff who married Ellen Askew at St Anne's Liverpool in 1831...he is a joiner... suppose he could be a much older brother
marriage is witnessed by a Jane Bickerstaff..
Not sure Simone of the geography of your area, but is there any connection between West Derby, - St Anne's, Liverpool and St Peter's Liverpool?

Hi

Not sure where Dalton Street was but West Derby about 4 miles from St Anne's Church Richmond which was at Cazneau Street, although they could have lived nearer the church than that due to span of West Derby area, and then St Peter's church was about a mile further away again in centre of the city at Church Street.
St Peter's was a church commonly used by people from all over Liverpool and even further afield at that time.

If you use google maps and put West Derby Cemetery as a starting point you may get an idea of the span of the area

West Derby was not only a village outside Liverpool, and is still a suburb, but the name used for an ancient Hundred and for the registration district almost surrounding the original town of Liverpool. Confusing, but we get used to it!

He's not in your tree, just one of the outlaws...

Not sure where Dalton Street was
It was just beyond where Pembroke Place divided into West Derby Road and Crown Street.
http://www.liverpoolhistoryprojects.co. ... z/np79.htm
Slightly right of centre at the top edge of the map, and about 2 inches down. Between the convent and the Baptist Chapel.

ahh thanks Brian.. so they were well into the city really.. no where near West Derby Cemetery... more than reasonable for them to have used both churches.. especially St Peter's when the kiddies were born, just a matter minutes walk
