Hi Silvia,
My mistake! Misread the YoB. This will be the right one then?
Births Mar 1874: CLARKE, John Robert - Prescott - 8b - 625.

What is the home address for the parents and what is the father's occupation? Interesting that the boy's middle name is that of the paternal g.father Clarke.

Does that cert have anything entered for his father's name and occupation? I know his birth cert doesn't say his father's name but the name Martin may be a clue.

Is this the 1871 you mean
RG10; Piece: 3865; Folio: 152; Page: 8

George Clarke 35 b Norley Cheshire
Mary Clarke 28 b St Helens
Thomas Clarke 9
Nicholas Garland 13
Thomas Garland 9
Mary Garland 4
John Garland 7

not so sure this is your family, they have a s son born c 1862 which is before your 1866 marriage and also the Garland's are listed as sons and daughter :? think this may well be a different George and Mary to yours altogether :?:

lol i was just looking at the same census the liverpool office toldme a thomas clarke was also admitted into kirkdale the same time as john and james clarke so maybe that is the correct one and maybe the wedding is the wrong one although i then found the 1901 census with george mary and thomas on also alice clarke and florence whiles ,if this is the same family why did james martin put father as deceased on his W/C in 1898 very very :?

I think maybe your family have come here shortly after marriage, had a couple of children.. passed away maybe and the children find themselves orphaned

The records are very scant for Whiston Workhouse only a few admission registers survive and they are for after 1900. The minutes on Prescot Union Workhouse have survived and they are at Preston. It's always worthwhile consulting these as they sometimes tracked the absent parent down and made him pay for the child's keep. They sometimes used a name of a relative to put in the father space on a marriage certificate in order to hide illegitamacy.

What information did you get regarding their admission to Kirkdale Industrial School?

@simone you may be right about them being orphans ,and @katie kirkdale said john and james clarke were put in kirkdale in 1880 by the governers of prescot, i asked about a joseph clarke who was in there also but they said he wasnt admitted at the same time ,but they did say a thomas clarke was admitted with james and john, i cant find thomas clarke in there though so im not sure where they got that info from , anything you can find would be great ,thanks silv.
