Hi,
Can't find Florence either, it's worth noting that WG named one of his daughters Florence and one Mary so it is possible she is family.
Been going round in circles so often I'm dizzy!
Can you clarify a point for me. You have Martha's dad as Joseph, yet the LDS site names him Adam Proctor? Am I right in thinking that the our George Henderson m. to Martha Proctor is the one on the LDS site b. on board ship in the Bay of Biscay or is this a completly different family with the same names?

Its saying Dad James born at sea Bay of Biscay, George born at sea Bay of Biscay and George death at sea Bay Of Biscay..sounds a mad to me says died 41 what does that mean 1841

sometimes these sources are wrong, even Marthas dad is wrong so i wouldn't believe all of it..

I just found a George Henderson born 1831 Glasgow Scotland on the 1851 census hes 21 and a Mariner lodging at 98 Hill St Toxteth, 1861 no luck so proberbly at sea

How interesting, what a find. Well if it was launched in 1874 then he most certainly was not born on it, or anyone I expect. But it is interesting that it was on a Mediterranean route, that may well include the Bay of Biscay and as we don't have a death record for G.H. he could have died on board and been buried at sea, maybe!!!

Thanks to all the help we have received I think we are finally dotting all the I's and crossing the T's. I feel confident we can complete the family tree, with the exception of Florence Mary.

Thank you for that link. I did buy some credits and selected the most likely dates. Of the ones I selected none fitted our G.H. Either the seaman was too young or their place of birth was not consitent with our records. Tempting to try them all but costly!!

I would take a punt and get Florence Marys birth cert it may hold all the answers you are looking for..also i would contact the Mersey Seamans Orphan Instituation..

http://www.rlsoi-uk.org/RLSOI/Archives.html

I think we have all run out of ideas, there seems to be no trace of Florence in 1871, although she could use Mary..and William wasnt born till after this census so 1891 is the next stop to trace him and again he could use the name George..he would have to be in the Kirkdale/Walton area c 1890s to meet Elizabeth..so would concentrate looking in those areas in 1891, wondered why Mrs Henderson was listed as head of the house in 1900 Directory 20 Sandon Road and not William.. :(

It is sometime since I last posted a reply. I have just received the birth certificate for Florence Mary Henderson. Her parents were David Henderson and Mary (nee Baird) whereas William George's parents were George Henderson and Martha (nee Proctor)
So either George & Florence Mary were Cousins or it was simply a coincidence that two Hendersons were in the Seaman's Orphanage at the same time. If anyone is able to find information to show that George Henderson b. 1831 and David Henderson b.?were brothers that would settle it I think. All help gratefully received, thank you for all the help in the past.

Hi,
Florence Mary Alexandra Henderson was born at 8 Globe street, Kirkdale Liverpool. Her Father was a 'Mate of a ship'. Florence and Mary are names that run through our family tree, she also had a sibling named Lillian. Two of my late husbands Aunts were Florence & Lillian and his mother's name was Mary so I am still hoping to find that David Henderson and George Henderson were brothers. If David was born in Glasgow then there is even more chance they were related. More research to be done on that.

Thank you for that info on David Henderson and family, as you say it confirms that little Florence being in the same home is a coincidence.

Your research has been a great help.

Regards.
