Northern Hospital records, Liverpool, from 1856

Post by edwinat17 »

I have some information taken from the 'Liverpool Mercury', Third Edition, Saturday June 21 1856, "Fatal Accident" relating to my great x5 grandfather , James Kirkpatrick. James Kirkpatrick, was killed in Gray's Warehouse, No. 5 Formby Street on the 17th June 1856. The Liverpool Mercury said that he was taken to the Northern Hospital where he died. There was also an inquest that returned a verdict of 'Accidental Death'. There is no death certificate for him, neither Liverpool Records nor GRO can find one. Does anyone know if the records from the Northern Hospital still exist and where they're kept? Are inquest records stored somewhere too? James is one of those 'special' people who came from Ireland b 1781 so I have no birth/marriage details either. I hope someone can help me add a bit more to his story other than the 1841 and 1851 census details. Best wishes from Oz, Edwina

Hi Edwina,

Welcome to the forum. I haven't been able to find a death index for him either or a burial record.

There will be a record of his death in the coroners' records on microfilm at the Liverpool Record Office. Here is some information about these records:-

The Northern Hospital was on Great Howard Street and Leeds Street. I think the Derby Road one was Stanley Hospital.

Stanley Hospital was on Stanley Road, right hand side heading out of Liverpool near Fountains Road.
