Where are the 2 Speight girls

Post by curveycat1 »

Can anyone help me find what happened to the following 2 Speight girls.
Margaret Speight, born abt 1821-1825 Ireland
Charlotte Speight, born 1833 Limekiln Lane, Liverpool
In 1841 Margaret is living at Collingwood Road, Liverpool with her Father, Arthur Speight, Mother, Margaret Speight (nee ??) and sisters Jemimah and Morigana (this could be Mary Ann who married Joseph Bristow in 1847, my 2 daughters 3rd gt grand parents)
Jemima married John Rimmer in 1843
Another sister Elizabeth born about 1821, Ireland married Richard Pendleton in 1852.
I cannot find Margaret, Elizabeth, or Charlotte on the 1851 census. As both parents died in 1842.
Sometimes Speight is spelt in various ways, Spaight, Spate and Speed
Any help would be great
thank Maxine

Hi,
Check out these marriages..

SPEIGHT, Margaret
Registration district: Liverpool.
Year/qtr of registration: 1843 / Jan-Feb-Mar
Volume no: 20; Page no: 283.
Margaret appears to have married one of the following: BALL, William; HARDING, Thomas; JONES, David or JONES, John.
Edited following confirmation post by MaryA re the groom!

Are you sure you have the right marriage for Elizabeth?
SPEIGHT, Elizabeth
Registration district: Liverpool

Volume no: 20; Page no: 245.
Elizabeth appears to have married one of the following: FORBES, Charles; GALE, John William; PITT, Thomas or WINTER, Joseph.

You could find them in 1851 with one of the above surnames and their age/origin.

Haven't found the family in 1851 yet but noticed that in the 1861 2 of the children for Richard and Elizabeth Pendleton [Piece:2651 - Folio:109 - Page:45] were born before 1851, therefor before the parents were married, if you have the right couple's marriage.

PENDLETON, Joseph - Son - 13 - 1848 - Scholar - Liverpool.
PENDLETON, Mary - Dtr - 11 - 1850 - Scholar - Liverpool.

So where are their births [Speight or Pendleton] and where are they in 1851? Still looking... 8)

Is this one?
SPEIGHT, Mary Ann
Registration district: Liverpool
Year/qtr of registration: 1849 / Apr-May-Jun
Volume no: 20 ; Page no: 489.

And is this Joseph?
SPEIGHT, Male (unnamed)
Registration district: Liverpool
Year/qtr of registration: 1847 / Jan-Feb-Mar
Volume no: 20; Page no: 553.

Baptisms anyone?

RE:
Charlotte Speight, born 1833 Limekiln Lane, Liverpool
Having trouble finding Charlotte in 1841. Do you know as fact, or are you assuming, that Charlotte is related to Margaret and Elizabeth? Does she have the same parents for instance?

There's a death in Ancoats 1843 for a Charlotte, but a bit too old as she is 17 :?

St Philips, Liverpool
2nd January 1843
William Ball Full Age Bachelor Labourer Gore Street
Father Robert Ball - Farmer
Margaret Speight Full Age Spinster Harrington Street
Father William Speight Shoemaker
Both signed their names
Witnesses Thos? Maddocks and Samuel Prowe?

Added father is wrong and address, I don't think this is the correct Margaret, despite father's occupation.

The burials for Arthur (b 1790) on 29 Nov 1842 and Margaret (b 1796) on 13 Mar 1842 were both in St Martin in the Fields. No sign of a burial for Charlotte.

Mary A
here is a copy of a Thomas Speight marriage, with an Arthur Speight as a witness. I'm not sure who Thomas is related to.
Arthur died in 1842 along with wife Maragret

Image
I have Richard and Elizabeth on the 1841 census with 4 kids before they married in 1852
on the 1851 census i have Richard and Elizabeth with 6 kids. Next door are my direct Bristow family
So im pretty sure i have the correct marriage for Elizabeth Speight to Rich Pendleton.
