If you know who he married you may well be able to find the marriage on this site, which is free to us and has many transcriptions even up to that date. http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

Using the reference and quarter date you will be able to order the marriage certificate from www.gro.gov.uk

Some service records for WW1 are available online but for WW2 service records you need to send away for them and there is a 9-12 month wait to receive them:-

Using the reference given by Dickiesam above, you will be able to order the marriage crtificate online at www.gro.gov.uk at a cost of £9.25. Alternatively if you knew the local church to where they were living - difficult I know if you don't know their address - you may be able to find the marriage in the Parish Register, probably held at the Liverpool Record Office, but check before you go if you are thinking of doing this in case the register for that date has not been filmed. Document archives are held at the Sandhills Satellite until the refurbishment of the Record Office is complete.

For his status and address at the date of enlistment you would have to obtain his service record for further information see my MOD link earlier in this thread.

This may be pertinent to your search for Patrick's status when he enlisted..
There are only 3 births in Lancashire registered to McCabe nee Murphy from 1937 to 1945, all in Liverpool:
MCCABE nee Murphy - Bootle (Lancashire) - 1940.
MCCABE nee Murphy - Bootle (Lancashire) - 1942.
MCCABE nee Murphy - Liverpool South - 1945.

Because these people may still be alive I have omitted their forenames. For that detail you should find the births on FreeBMD, a free-to-access site at http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

His marriage cert will give you his address in 1937. If the 1940, 1942 and 1945 births are to Patrick and Mary you will have their addresses from the respective birth certs. If you decide to order birth certs you should specify who the parents must be. If any of the above are not to Patrick and Mary the GRO will only charge you a search fee of £4.50 and refund the balance of your initial payment.
