Church Attendance Lists

Post by Blue70 »

I found my Harvey/Harvie ancestors on church attendance lists for Stevenston in Ayrshire, Scotland. These records are really good census substitutes the 1819 record for Hugh Harvey and his family gave me a lot of information about the family including his occupation, wife's maiden name, children's names and their address:-

How useful is that!!

Always worth checking church records of all sorts, pews ownerships and such like too.

Is it a regular feature of Scottish churches to have that sort of register?
I have found one local example, at Wavertree Congregational Church, where I saw it by appointment. Very useful!
