Sarah Kelley was Wood - Burial
Sarah Kelley was Wood - Burial
I would like to find out where my great grandma Sarah Kelley nee Wood is buried.
I know that's he lived in Liverpool
She married Fredrick Claude Kelly in 1915 at St Peters, Liverpool
I know they did not stay together, he left and passed in the 1940's I think.
I do not think she was Catholic? As my grandma her daughter wasn't?
How can I find out where she is buried and if the plot is still there? I feel I have to go there if possible?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Sara

Re: Sarah Kelley was Wood
A lot depends on what area of Liverpool she lived at the time of death, and the date is the most important thing to discover. You need to speak to anybody in the family who may remember even an approximate date that she died and whether it would have been in the North or the South of the town so that the index can be checked for an entry.

Thanks for that
Might seem a silly question but what do I do next?

Re: Sarah Kelley was Wood - Burial
At that date it's doubtful that you would find an entry online for the burial, possibly if it had been an RC and at Ford, but even so nothing is showing in that search.
You would need to check cemeteries at the Liverpool Record Office, perhaps beginning with Anfield and then maybe West Derby would be the closest ones.
If you do decide to undertake this research, do contact them first to discover if the registers for the recent date you are looking for are on microfilm, which will be in the World Museum, William Brown Street, or still in document form in which case you would need to arrange an appointment to view these at the Sandhills Satellite.

Re: Sarah Kelley was Wood - Burial
It might be a good idea to contact Liverpool City Council Cemeteries as this burial is more recent. You can request a free look-up if you know the date of death and the cemetery. There's a good chance considering where she lived that she is buried in Anfield. For the purpose of the look-up request tell the council she was buried in Anfield.

Re: Sarah Kelley was Wood - Burial
We knew that but hoped that you would get away with it, sadly it's not just £10, it's £10 per year per cemetery, so if you were actually unsure it could cost a fortune.
Don't forget to check with them where the records are for that particular date as it's a short train ride between the two locations.

Re: Sarah Kelley was Wood - Burial
Hi Scouch
You usually have to pay if you don't know the date of death and cemetery I'll e-mail them to see what they say. I don't think the records for 1964 will be in the record office.

Thanks so much to you all for your help.
I am dying to find her. I am hopeful that she may have a plot still and a stone.....
How long do plots stay as they are?

Re: Sarah Kelley was Wood - Burial
I've had a reply from my contact they have done a free search for the year 1964 and unfortunately she was not buried at Anfield Cemetery. I don't think I will be able to get another free search but what you could do is write to them yourself with the name, date of death and another cemetery such as Everton.

Re: Sarah Kelley was Wood - Burial
Although you may not get much of a response, I can't guarantee, as it is such a recent date why not try to phone the cemeteries themselves - googling found a phone number for West Derby Cemetery 0151 546 2128 and for Everton 01515253416.
Do let us know if you have any luck using this method.

Re: Sarah Kelley was Wood - Burial
Liverpool Record Office has
Everton Cemetery burial registers and order books 1880 - 1986
West Derby Cemetery the same things 1884 - 1986
Liverpool Crematorium Records 1908 - 1992
They also hold some graveyard records which appear to go up to the time you want.
What was her address when she died?

Just another thought how about trying the newspaper perhaps the Echo for around the date of death. It may give time and place of the internment.

Re: Sarah Kelley was Wood - Burial
Thanks all.....
After asking around my Aunty is sure the cemetery was at the end of east lancs rd...
So that would tellme west derby?
She remembers going with my grandma when she was younger and my grandma getting upset because she couldn't find the spot where her mum was buried?
So I will try ringing the cemetery tomorrow, worth a shot as I have date of death and name.......

Re: Sarah Kelley was Wood - Burial
The records for the Cemteries now go up to 2000. The online catalogue has not been updated. Will double check to make sure I am correct. Also the registers for the Non-Conformist section at Everton Cemetery have not survived, however the order books have so if you are looking for a Non Conformist burial for that Cemetery use the order books.
